History

Founded with the mission of bridging the gap between junior/college and professional hockey, the American Premier Hockey League (APHL) has quickly established itself as a proving ground for elite athletes with next-level aspirations. Since its inception, the APHL has emphasized competitive development, strong regional rivalries, and a commitment to community-based hockey.

The league was built to provide a platform where players can showcase their talent in front of scouts, coaches, and fans—while competing in high-intensity, fast-paced games that prepare them for the demands of professional hockey. With teams across the Midwest and Northeast, the APHL continues to grow in size, exposure, and reputation.

Over the years, dozens of APHL players have gone on to earn opportunities in the FPHL and SPHL and overseas leagues, a testament to the league’s focus on development and advancement.

As we continue to evolve, the APHL remains dedicated to delivering high-caliber hockey, building strong local fanbases, and supporting the long-term goals of our athletes both on and off the ice.
