APHL 3/22 Statement

AMERICAN PREMIER HOCKEY LEAGUE – OFFICIAL STATEMENT

The American Premier Hockey League is extremely disappointed in the actions that took place following the conclusion of the playoff game between the Toledo Swarm and the West Michigan Sentinels.

This winner-take-all Game Three matchup in Round One was highly competitive and hard-fought, ultimately requiring overtime to determine which team would advance. West Michigan secured a 6–5 victory to earn a place in Round Two.

Following the game-winning goal, a Toledo player reacted in a dangerous and unsportsmanlike manner by flipping the net and shooting a puck toward celebrating Sentinels players. This behavior escalated into multiple on-ice altercations.

Let’s be clear: this conduct is unacceptable. It is inconsistent with the standards of the APHL and undermines the integrity of the game.

The league is currently reviewing all available evidence, including video, audio, and witness reports. The APHL will hold all individuals involved accountable. Disciplinary action—including suspensions, fines, and potential removal from the league—will be issued where warranted.

The safety of our players and the integrity of competition are non-negotiable. Emotional moments are part of the game, but losing control in this manner will not be tolerated.

We expect our players to represent the league with professionalism and respect. The responsibility to uphold those standards belongs to everyone on the ice.
