“IT’S NOT WEAK TO SPEAK” APHL RECOGNIZES WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY
October 10, 2024 – American Premier Hockey League (APHL)
The American Premier Hockey League stands together today in recognition of World Mental Health Day, reminding players, coaches, families, and fans that it’s not weak to speak.
Mental health matters just as much as physical health — on and off the ice. The APHL recognizes the challenges that athletes, veterans, and community members face in silence. The pressure to perform, the grind of travel, and the struggles behind the scenes can weigh heavily on even the toughest competitors.
But strength isn’t about staying silent — it’s about reaching out.
Whether it’s a teammate, a family member, or a friend, a simple conversation can make a difference. Hockey teaches resilience, teamwork, and courage, and those same values apply when it comes to mental wellness.
The league encourages everyone to check in on those around them and to never hesitate to reach out for help.
If you or someone you know is struggling, you are not alone.
Help is available 24/7 by calling or texting 988 to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline — a free, confidential service that connects you with trained counselors who care.
As the APHL continues to grow across North America, the league remains committed to supporting mental health awareness, community outreach, and breaking the stigma surrounding mental illness. Together, we can build a culture — in hockey and beyond — where speaking up is a sign of strength.
It’s not weak to speak. It’s brave. It’s human. And it can save a life.
