American Premier Hockey League Announces Immediate Termination of Motor City Muskies Franchise**
The American Premier Hockey League (APHL) today announced the immediate termination of the Motor City Muskies franchise from league membership, effective March 4, 2026.
Following a comprehensive review and in accordance with the APHL Constitution, By-Laws, League Rules, Policies, and Regulations, the League has determined that the Motor City Muskies franchisee materially breached multiple core obligations required of all member organizations.
The League’s decision is based on findings that the franchisee:
Failed to operate its team in a professional manner consistent with APHL standards;
Failed to maintain competitive integrity and uphold principles of sportsmanship;
Failed to satisfy financial obligations to the League and its partners, failure to pay team and player fines, and league dues
Engaged in conduct detrimental to the League and its member organizations, including rostering players while serving suspensions.
Failed to field a competitive team as determined by the League’s governance and competitive review process; canceled regular-season games without adequate notice to member teams, and failed to complete the regular season while playing an exhibition game with another league while under contract with the APHL.
Violated provisions of the APHL Constitution, By-Laws, League Rules, Policies, and Regulations.
As a result of these violations, the APHL hereby terminates the franchise agreement with Motor City Muskies and all affiliated entities, effective immediately. The organization’s rights and privileges as a member franchise of the APHL are revoked.
“The APHL is committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism, accountability, and competitive integrity,” said a League spokesperson. “Our mission is to provide players with a safe, structured, and professionally operated environment in which to develop and compete. When a franchise fails to meet those standards, the League must act decisively to protect our players, member organizations, and the integrity of the competition.”
The APHL remains steadfast in its commitment to delivering a competitive, well-governed league that prioritizes player development, safety, and organizational excellence.
